Therapy for Trauma
in Grand Rapids, MI and online throughout Michigan
Heal what’s beneath the surface and grow into
the safety, connection, and wholeness
you’ve always needed.
Have you been living
in survival mode for so long,
you don’t know what safety feels like anymore?
Sometimes trauma comes from one overwhelming event that you rarely talk about but still lives in your nervous system like it happened yesterday.
Other times, although you can’t point to any single harmful event, the slow accumulation of feeling unseen, unheard, or unsafe leaves an enduring impact.
You might find yourself:
Overreacting, isolating, people-pleasing, or self-sabotaging in relationships
Experiencing panic attacks, emotional flashbacks, or simply “shutting-down” when overwhelmed
Feeling disconnected, foggy or far away, or like your body is floating through life without you
Carrying a constant sense of shame, anxiety, or dread — even when nothing seems obviously wrong.
You may not have words
for what happened,
but your body remembers.
Trauma-Informed Therapy Can Help.
You can feel grounded in your body and safe in your relationships. You can connect with others — and with yourself — in a way that is real.
Trauma therapy with Together-With helps you:
Understand how your symptoms developed as intelligent adaptations to overwhelming experiences
Work through emotional stuck points with powerful, experiential tools including EMDR, IFS-informed therapy, Coherence Therapy, and somatic-informed therapies
Gently reconnect with parts of yourself that have gone into hiding
Experience lasting change rooted in your nervous system, not just coping skills and short-term relief
My approach is warm, collaborative, and
grounded in relational connection and curiosity.
I seek to offer inclusive therapy that honors
the fullness of who you are.
You won’t be asked to edit your experience to fit a model
— instead, we’ll work together to create
a space where every part of you is welcomed,
understood, and supported in healing at your pace.
Feeling outside of your body, overwhelmed,
or overcompensating isn’t about who you are—
it’s about what you’ve lived through.
Let’s honor the truth of your past as we work together to help you grow something new: rooted in safety, compassion, and trust.

FAQ
Even in the dark, questions reach toward the light. Yours are welcome here.

A: The methods I use depend on your goals, preferences, and the kind of trauma you’ve experienced.
For example, single-incident traumas (like a car accident or sudden loss) often respond well to focused approaches like EMDR, which helps resolve how the event is stored in the body’s memory systems. But when trauma has been chronic, relational, or began early in life (often called developmental or complex trauma), healing tends to require a more layered approach that unfolds over time.
At the outset of therapy, we may integrate tools and principles from CBT, DBT, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction to help you manage symptoms in and outside of sessions as you move through the healing process — but we won’t rely on these tools to resolve trauma.
To support that kind of deeper work, we’ll draw on experiential and relational therapies including:
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy — helps the brain and body reprocess traumatic memories in a way that reduces emotional distress and allows new insights and inner resources to emerge.
IFS-informed therapy (Internal Family Systems) — explores your internal experience with compassion, helping you unblend from protective patterns and reconnect with your inner strengths and resources.
Coherence Therapy — uses aspects of talk therapy together with active experiential prompts and exploration to bring unconscious emotional learnings into conscious awareness so that painful, outdated emotions, beliefs and behaviors can shift at the root.
Focusing & Mirroring Hands — gentle body-based practices that build a felt sense of safety and help you stay present with difficult emotions without overwhelm.
EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy) — this method involves experiential, mindful, and interpersonal exploration which helps people recognize and shift emotional patterns rooted in relational wounds.
Each of these methods can support different layers of healing — whether you’re working with a single painful experience or the cumulative impact of years of emotional survival. We’ll collaborate to find what works best for you.

A: If you’ve struggled with debilitating anxiety, feeling distant or disconnected from your experiences, shame that doesn’t let up, or repeated painful relationship patterns, this work might be a good fit — even if past therapy hasn’t helped. I specialize in helping clients who feel stuck, who prefer an approach that feels human (rather than sterile or scripted), and who want more than tools for just managing symptoms.
-
A: That depends on what you’re carrying and what your goals are. Some clients come for short-term, targeted work on one or two specific issues, and many others stay longer-term to experience transformation that affects various areas of their lives.
Together-With is committed to supporting the slow, deep, and compassionate work that complicated (and human) stories often require. If you worry that your past is too painful or intense to get in touch with and open up about easily — that’s not a problem to fix. It’s something we’ll approach together, with care and respect, so that healing can happen at the pace your system needs. We’ll regularly check in on progress and adjust the plan to fit your needs.

A. I have experience working with people from various walks of life, and I’m dedicated to offering therapy that is actively anti-racist, respectful of diverse identities, and inclusive of your beliefs related to spirituality/faith (if this is something you want to integrate into the therapy process). I believe that good therapy is client-centered, meaning it focuses on the issues that are most important to you. Healing happens when all parts of your identity are seen, honored, and understood.
